PLAY YOUR BEST
G.A.M.E.
Ginny Golding and
Sharon Abbondanza are thrilled to
co-create these Sunday golf and yoga workshops inviting you to find a new
joy in your game. This series will provide you with practices to ground your
game, connect to your spinal and abdominal core, and cultivate a sense of
ease.
Although you could participate in
any single Sunday, each workshop addresses a different aspect of the game
(and your body) and offers simple effective tools to understand and improve
your posture, open your thoracic rotation, enliven your legs and open your
hip joints, connect your arms and your legs to your core, and calm your
nervous system through breathing inquiries. Yoga is the perfect partner for
golfers; the practice fosters a strong foundation, promotes concentration,
infuses relaxation, and inspires awareness.
We will convene in the WestPoint
Room at UGC for our morning yoga program, and after a fabulous lunch,
the University Golf Club will be our canvas to explore new skills acquired
during the afternoon.
We play and enjoy our best
golf when we are present in the moment. Through the discipline of yoga,
golfers are offered effective, accessible practices to establish a felt
sense of the ground below. Being grounded before each shot instills presence
and contributes to cultivating ease in your game. In this session we will
establish a new relationship to gravity through enlivening your legs, waking
up your feet, exploring the practice of yield and push, and opening your hip
joints to access your pelvic power and vitalize your game.
Develop tools to ensure you
are connected through your strokes and swings. Use your breath to initiate
action while remaining plugged into your core. By being centred in your
spinal core and mobilizing your abdominal core, you establish an inner
anchor to remain steady and grounded in action. Learning the movements of
your spine awakens alignment and therefore improves posture, safely opens
your range of motion, and brings fluidity to your swing. Once you are
grounded and core connected, you will naturally position yourself to contact
the centre of your clubface and play your best game.
We are only golfing for 33
minutes on average in a typical round of golf. Being in the flow of the game
includes all the moments between your strokes and swings. Yoga helps us to
awaken right effort, a practice that promotes moving from your core,
stilling your mind and embodying your game. Through a simple meditation
practice you will learn to focus on your breath and find stillness in
movement. This workshop includes hatha yoga sequences to increase
flexibility and bring balance to your game.
Complete each round of golf
with ease. Take a few minutes to release tension and stiff muscles before
your après golf activities. In this session, learn several routines to
counter pose the movements of your golf game and bring space into areas of
compression. By developing awareness of your personal holding patterns, you
alleviate chronic tension and instill a sense of peace and calm. The more
deeply you can relax, the more ease will permeate your game and your life!
